A postdoctoral scholar position is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Rovshan Sadygov at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, TX).

The research focus of the lab is broadly in bioinformatics and mass informatics of proteomics. One project focuses on studies of in vivo protein turnover using heavy water labeling and LC-MS. From a new model of isotope profile quantification using partial isotope profiles, we extract protein turnover rates. The methods are applied to study proteome dynamics in mouse liver. Another project focuses on protein network generation from large-scale proteomics data to study protein networks in the liver. Candidates should have recently obtained or be about to obtain a Ph.D. in quantitative sciences. Proficiency in a programming language (preferably C/C++) is expected; Experience in statistical data analysis using R is desired. Excellent skills in communication, review of scientific literature, and scientific writing are expected. Experience in analyzing mass spectrometry data will be helpful. The initial appointment is for two years with a possibility of extension upon mutual agreement.

A rich environment for computational science and proteomics is available at UTMB, including joint affiliation with the Bioinformatics Program, the Gulf Coast Consortia for Quantitative Biomedical Sciences, which brings together quantitative biologists from across six Gulf Coast institutions: The University of Houston, University of Texas Health Science Center, Baylor College of Medicine, UTMB, Rice University, and Institute of Biosciences and Technology – TAMHSC. Galveston is a subtropical island conveniently located in the greater Houston metropolitan area.
