We are looking for an entrepreneurially minded student nearing completion of their Ph.D. (bio or clinical chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science and engineering) who is interested in a unique and exciting post-doc position. The funded position will focus on bio field effect transistors (Bio-FETs) that leverage a novel Aligned Carbon Nanotube (ANT) process. The patented ANT process produces the desired structure and spacing of carbon nanotubes for a broad set of applications, including biosensors, RF devices for wireless communication, wearable electronics, computer chips, and OLED displays.

The post-doc will be trained to help resolve a manageable set of technical challenges with emphasis on an innovative nanotube based biosensor and scale-up. We are focusing on the design and development of a demonstration device targeting detection of cytokines to provide a reference point versus industry standard detection methods such as SPR and ELISA. Once demonstrated, it is expected that the process will gain additional commercial traction with one or more industry collaborators, as well as position the ANT process for funding under government research programs with potential that a company will be formed to advance it commercially. Candidates with expertise in the following areas are particularly sought: specific antigen-antibody interactions; immunosensors; field-effect transistor (FET)-based immunosensors; medical diagnostics; medical biochemistry; chemical functionalization of surfaces; solution-processing of thin film semiconductors; and/or the design of tools for solution-based thin film deposition over large areas.

The selected candidate would receive salary as a post-doc and work jointly with the Arnold, Gopalan, and Andrews laboratories.
