The Division of Clinical Genetics at Lund University is a world-leading research environment in cancer research consisting of eight principal investigators working with leukemia and solid tumor research. The research group led by Prof. Thoas Fioretos focuses on genetic characterization and development of novel targeted therapies in leukemia by using state-of-the-art technology for next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and functional studies in vitro and in vivo. The research group has an excellent track record of high-impact research and has identified therapeutic targets with clinical implications and formed the spin-out companies Qlucore and Cantargia.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are offering a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in translational leukemia research. The candidate will be joining a highly collaborative research environment, where he/she will work independently and in close collaboration with senior researchers to identify and evaluate novel therapeutic targets on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) stem cells. The candidate will be expected to contribute to multiple research efforts in the group but with a particular focus on two projects. In the first project, the candidate will identify novel targets on AML stem cells based on a surface marker screen already established in the lab. In the second project, the candidate will characterize the function and assess the therapeutic potential of a recently identified target. Key methods will include murine models, flow cytometry and functional studies by CRISPR-Cas9, small molecules and antibodies.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a strong interest in cancer research. Candidates need to hold or be in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in a relevant field (not more than three years old). Previous hands-on experience from in vivo studies, flow cytometry and work within hematology, immunology or cancer research is advantageous. Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team is essential, placing an emphasis on collaboration skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
