Health Science Specialist –Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Center for Population Genomics, within the Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiological Research and Information Center (MAVERIC) in VABHS, led by Dr. Christopher O’Donnell, has 2 full-time Health Science Specialist – Postdoctoral Research Fellowship openings for professionals passionate about serving Veterans.

The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is the largest United States Biobank, consisting of a multi-ethnic cohort representing veterans nationwide. Over 600,000 participants have been enrolled in MVP providing data including questionnaire data, longitudinal electronic health records, biomarker, and genomic data. Current genomic data includes genome-wide genotyping for common and rare variants, imputed to 1000Genomes, and WES and WGS data is expected in the near future. Our vision includes analysis using a high performance computing cluster to advance scientific aims in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, and big data science focusing on a range of chronic diseases including cardiovascular, metabolic, and aging outcomes and their risk factors.

We seek highly motivated, creative and bright individuals, to work within the MVP and the VA. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and demonstrated prior training or research experience relevant to one or more of the following disciplines: statistical genetics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, and/or systems biology. A proven track record of publications is expected. Experience in population research and/or large dataset analysis are all highly desirable. Programming experience in one or more of the following is desired: R, Perl, Python, Unix, SAS. Background in Cardiovascular disease, Epidemiology, Platelet Biology, Hematology, Pharmacogenetics and/or gene expression research viewed favorably. In addition to Center research, Fellows regularly work in international collaborative teams to make discoveries and validate results. Affiliation with HMS and BU and opportunities to interface with the Broad Institute.
