Job Description

The laboratory of Timothy Chan, MD, PhD is recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow in cancer genetics. We are a laboratory of 20 members, ranging from graduate students, technicians, postdocs, staff scientists and faculty investigators. We collaborate closely with the Immunogenomics and Precision Oncology Platform (IPOP), a newly established collaborative research program at MSK directed by Dr. Chan and other faculty in the lab.

This fellow position is focused on molecular genetics, mouse experimentation, and immunogenomics as applied to human cancer, including but not limited to head and neck cancer.We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a background in molecular/cellular biology to work at the interface of cancer genetics, molecular biology, genomic analysis, and tumor immunology, with both Dr. Tim Chan and Dr. Luc Morris as supervisors.

The fellow will work on the analysis of genomic datasets, perform experiments functionally characterizing tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes in vitro and in vivo, and carry out analyses linking findings in the tumor genome to functional assays and/or the tumor immune microenvironment.

Potential projects include but are not limited to immunocompetent mouse models of cancer, analysis of multi-omic datasets of thousands of cancers treated with standard therapies and/or immunotherapy, investigation of tumor suppressor genes relevant to carcinogenesis, developing new immunocompetent mouse models of tumors, and immunologic interrogations of checkpoint blockade, combination therapies, and neoantigen screens in patient tumors and model systems.

The Chan Laboratory and IPOP together comprise a dynamic group working collaboratively across the spectrum of cancer research, from basic molecular genetics, tumor immunology, mouse modeling, to computational biology and bioinformatics. Approaches utilized include sequencing of exomes, transcriptomes, and T cell repertoires, as well as neoantigen immunogenicity screens, molecular cloning, biochemistry, and mouse models.

Applicants should hold a top-tier PhD degree (cancer biology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, or similar field), and must have strong laboratory and analytical skills. You will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, and have weekly in-depth meetings and regular access to your faculty advisors. Significant experience in mouse experimentation (breeding, handling) and mouse genetics is necessary, as well as significant experience with cell culture and molecular genetics techniques (cloning,DNA plasmid techniques, and CRISPR/Cas9. Experience and background in bioinformatics and immunology are preferred but not necessary. Good communication, organizational skills, and recordkeeping are a must. Our research is team science, and you will work with a broad number of partners within the lab and other labs at MSKCC. You will be exposed to weekly high-level cancer research seminars and symposia atMSKCC, and you will also present your work at regular lab meetings and teach/mentor graduate students, technicians and other postdoctoral fellows.
