Post-doc position in combinatorial protein engineering

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden's technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes Architecture, Industrial Management and Urban Planning. There are a total of 12,400 full year students at first and second levels, almost 1,900 active (at least 50 per cent) research students and 5,100 employees.

The School of Biotechnology offers a curriculum that reflects the multidisciplinary nature of Biotechnology, integrating theoretical and applied science in undergraduate and graduate courses. The school has six departments with about 300 employees, located at AlbaNova University Center in Stockholm and Science for Life Laboratory in Solna. The Biotechnology research within the school is internationally well recognized.

Description

The research at the Division of Protein Technology is to a large extent focused on development of affinity proteins, including design and engineering of new functions and properties. Affinity protein development is a growing research discipline worldwide with applications in several fields such as biotech and medicine. The group of Biotherapy and Bacterial display has wide experience in combinatorial protein engineering of affinity proteins and has developed methods for such purposes exploiting both phage and bacteria.

The group is currently coordinating projects for development of new protein-based drug candidates targeting proteins and peptides involved in various neurological disorders, such as Frontotemporal Degeneration, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. For these projects, a post-doc position is open. The vacancy center on combinatorial protein engineering technologies, i.e. expression of large collections of protein variants on microorganisms and selection of candidates with desired properties from such collections. It will include exploiting and developing such technologies for generation and investigation of new protein-based reagents to generate affinity-based drug candidates.
