Postdoctoral Position- Developmental Genetics, Cardiovascular Biology and Stroke: University of Calgary : Calgary, Canada

Our lab is interested in understanding the interactions of the endothelial lining of blood vessels and the mural cells (vascular smooth muscle cells or pericytes) that surround it, providing stability and contractility to blood vessels. We seek a postdoctoral associate to investigate the transcriptional mechanism by which vascular stabilization is established and maintained in zebrafish embryonic development, and how reduction in vascular stability leads to stroke. We use genetic analysis to focus on pericyte-endothelial or smooth muscle-endothelial interactions. Zebrafish developmental genetics, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, RNA-seq transcriptome analysis, confocal and electron microscopy imaging are techniques that we will use in this project.

We are looking for a creative and collaborative postdoc to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in any of: developmental biology, vascular biology and/or genetics. Experience in computational analysis of sequencing data would be a strong asset. Candidates must be within 5 years of obtaining their PhD degree.
