Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (Grade 7 & 8 – multiple posts)

The Centre for Computational Biology (CCB) is a rapidly expanding research centre at the University of Birmingham currently offering multiple postdoctoral fellowships to ambitious individuals who would welcome the challenge of play leading roles in the design and implementation of a number of research projects.

The Centre was established in 2014 as a cross-college initiative to bring together expertise across the Colleges of Medical and Dental Sciences and Life and Environmental Sciences. The Centre acts as a focal point for computational biological and health science across the university and is led by three Chairs in Bioinformatics (Cazier), Clinical Bioinformatics (Gkoutos) and Environmental Bioinformatics (Brown). Our research spans a range of topics including cancer, population diversity, integromics, environment genomics, health data analytics, infectious disease monitoring, metabolomics, clinical trials, data science and machine learning (Yau). The Centre has also led a £2.3M investment in university-wide computing infrastructure for the Life Sciences to support its work.

The Centre benefits from extensive links with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham Health Partners, the recently established £5M Birmingham Cancer Research UK Research Centre, the £24M Institute of Translational Medicine and one of the leading clinical trials units in the UK. Our investigators are leading efforts as part of the Genomics England 100,000 Genomes Project in conjunction with the West Midlands Genomic Medicine Centre. Our research is supported by a number of funding bodies including Cancer Research UK, EU H2020 programme, the NIHR and Research Councils UK.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Sciences. A relevant degree which should be linked to informatics and science and demonstrate an understanding of both science and informatics in a clinical setting.
