Job Description
Advion has an opening for an industrial ICP/MS post-doctoral research scientist in Ithaca, NY. The aim of this research is to discover and characterize the suitability of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP/MS) and sample introduction systems for the determination of trace amounts of inorganic elements in clinical samples. The goal of this work is to help facilitate the development of novel ICP/MS hardware solutions, as well as, discover, develop and validated methods for clinical applications. An important part of this research is to consider how ICP/MS may be used in a moderate-throughput MS screening (~1,000 samples/day) clinical facility.
The preferred candidate shall be skilled in ICP/MS sample introduction techniques and tools including developing and validating robust and reliable methods.
The successful candidate will work within a team of dedicated application scientists and new product development engineers. The goal of the described applied research is to develop an ICP-MS system with fit-for-purpose methods which will then in turn be used to perform moderate-throughput MS screening on various types of samples in a clinical environment. Detailed knowledge and hands-on experience in matters of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry pertaining to instrument design and method development are considered essential for this position.
Appointment Duration: One-year appointment renewable by mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Preferred Personal Credentials:
• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Physics
• Prior experience with biological samples characterization using ICP and/or ICP/Mass Spectrometry
• Willingness to work hard with a commitment to successful research outcomes
• Team player but one who can also work independently
• Results oriented, with ability to solve problems.
• Ability to contribute or collaborate effectively in a cross-disciplinary team environment and lead a project/task team.
• Excellent English oral and writing skills.
• Chinese oral and writing skills are considered a plus
• Innovative and creative person with the ability to conceive and implement original ideas |
