Postdoc for New Magnetic Resonance Methods in Oncology

Description:

The German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) is searching for a research group leader (postdoc) for the partner site Freiburg. The research is focused on new magnetic resonance methods in oncology.

The research is extending and validating new MRI methods both theoretically and in clinical studies. In particular, therapy-induced changes in the tumor vasculature are quantified using time-of-flight-MR angiography with adapted post-processing (e.g. vessel curvature analysis), the (cerebral) metabolic rate of oxygen consumption (CMRO2) is assessed with oxygen-17 MRI, lung tumor motion is quantified for real-time dose adaptation in radio-therapy, MR-guided tumor biopsies will be realized with a new tracking method, MR thermometry is adapted for use in abdominal treatment scenarios, and dedicated real-time imaging techniques are realized for a remotely-controlled needle manipulator. For this research, the department is equipped with a 1.5T MR system and 2x 3T MRI systems that are exclusively used in research.

The candidate will work within a team to develop pulse sequences and protocols required for these MR applications in oncology. Within the department, the candidate will be responsible for several PhD students. The research is carried out in a multi-disciplinary team of MR physicists, computer scientists and clinicians – therefore, the candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within this diverse environment.

Your profile:

The successful candidate should have a master's degree and a PhD, preferably in physics or biomedical engineering and an interest (and preferably some experience) in

MR pulse sequence programming with Siemens IDEA

Clinical MRI studies in oncology

Image reconstruction and post-processing

A record of peer reviewed journal publications and expertise in C/C++ are required.

The initial appointment will be for 2 years with possibility for extension based on performance and the availability of funding. The position can in principle be part-time.
