Discover Your Career at Emory University
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
Description
Emory University invites applications for the endowed Tarbutton Interdisciplinary Science Fellowships appointed for a term of up to three years. These fellowships support outstanding postdoctoral scientists pursuing research that bridges the disciplines of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and/or computer science. The program was inaugurated in 2022 with the aim of fostering Emory's continued growth as a national leader in interdisciplinary sciences, and in particular in theoretical approaches to living systems. Fellows will be supervised by one or more faculty members from the Emory College of Arts and Sciences (ECAS), and are expected to pursue an innovative, semi-independent research program.
Fellowship Support:
The fellowship provides 50% of the postdoctoral stipend. An independent research fund, to be used at the Fellow's discretion, may be additionally awarded. The sponsoring faculty mentor(s) will be responsible for the remaining 50% of the fellow's stipend and benefits.
Emory's Research Environment:
Fellows will have access to Emory's world-class scientific infrastructure and collaborative community, including the resources of the College of Arts and Sciences, and, in particular, (For more postdoctoral recruitment information, visit:boshihoujob.com)its Theory and Modeling of Living Systems initiative, the School of Medicine, and the Rollins School of Public Health. Emory's campus is also home to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Primate Research Center, with close ties to the nearby Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University.
Applicant Eligibility:
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field by their intended fellowship start date. Preference will be given to early-career applicants, who will have received their PhD less than one year prior to their start date. Exceptionally strong candidates in their first postdoctoral position at the time of application will also be considered. Successful applicants will demonstrate a record of creativity and scientific depth, and make a compelling case for why Emory is the ideal environment for their postdoctoral training.
Primary Mentor(s):
A critical component of a successful application is securing the commitment of a primary faculty mentor(s) from the ECAS science faculty. The mentor's support will include financial co-sponsorship of the fellowship, and a commitment to the fellow's professional growth in all aspects of academic training, including research, pedagogy, and professional guidance. Applicants are thus expected to identify potential ECAS faculty mentors and communicate with them prior to submitting their application.
Application Materials:
Applications should be sent as a single PDF to tarbutton@listserv.cc.emory.edu. Please include the following:
(1) A curriculum vitae;
(2) A cover letter (1 page max) stating your interest in the position; the letter should clearly identify the proposed ECAS faculty mentor(s) and contain contact information for three professional references;
(3) A statement of up to three pages discussing your research experience and future interests.
Deadline:
Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2025 and continue until the positions are filled. To ensure full consideration, all materials should be submitted by this date.
