Assistant Scientist in inorganic scintillating materials

Job Summary

This position provides technical and engineering support in the HEP Crystal Laboratory to test and comprehensively characterize inorganic scintillating materials applicable in High Energy Physics experiments.

Job Duties

Carry out spectroscopic measurement for various scintillating materials before and after irradiation by gamma-rays, neutrons and charged hadrons, including excitation, emission, transmittance and radiation induced absorption spectra, light output, decay kinetics and light response uniformity.

Carry out data analysis by using various software package under Unix and Windows operating systems.

Investigate correlations between spectroscopic data and light output as well as radiation hardness for various inorganic scintillators.

Investigate impurities and defects in scintillating materials and the corresponding consequence in material's radiation hardness.

Simulate light propagation inside optical volume, including reflection, refraction and radiation damage effects.

Basic Qualifications

Master's in material science. Ph.D. preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge in inorganic scintillator fabrication and structure analysis, spectroscopic measurements, nuclear fast electronics, data acquisition system, Unix and Windows operating system and data analysis software, such as PAW and Labview.
