A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shaida Andrabi, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. This position involves work on mechanisms of cell death in stroke with emphasis on mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunction. We use neuronal cultures and animal models to assess the molecular mechanisms of neural death in the brain. The major focus is on the identification of novel mechanisms leading to dysfunction of autophagy and mitochondrial processes. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a background in neuroscience and cell biology. Technical expertise in animal models of stroke, stereotaxic surgery, microscopy, primary neuronal cultures, and excellent interpersonal/communication skills are required for this position.
