Description of Position

The lab of Dr. Napoleone Ferrara is seeking a highly motivated individual for a postdoctoral research position at the University of California San Diego. The successful candidate will join a team focusing on the regulation of ocular angiogenesis. The Ferrara lab has done pioneering work in this area, including the isolation and cloning of VEGF and the development of anti-VEGF drugs, that have revolutionized the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and neovascular age-related macular degeneration. The projects will involve identification of novel targets implicated in resistance to VEGF inhibitors in age-related macular degeneration and in other disorders. A series of approaches will be employed, including the use of novel compounds and mutant mice.

Qualifications Required/Academic Background

MD or PhD degree in a biological discipline and hands-on knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques are essential. Knowledge of models of intraocular neovascularization models is highly desirable.

First author publications in respected peer-reviewed journal are a requirement.
