EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Condensed Matter Physics (CDT-CMP)
£Attractive | South West England | 27 Mar 2018
Up to 14 fully-funded PhD places for a 4-year CDT PhD programme, starting September 2018.
The Universities of Bristol and Bath joint EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Condensed Matter Physics (CDT-CMP): The Centre aims to train students across a broad range of disciplines in the field of hard condensed matter physics, encompassing experiment, theory, fundamental physics and device applications.
Key elements of the PhD programme
Taught courses and hands-on training in experimental and theoretical techniques during year one. Example topics include: the physics of novel materials; Device fabrication and characterization; and Theoretical modelling and simulation.
Physics techniques modules (theory and experiment), short exploratory training projects and an extended research project in a choice of groups at Universities of Bristol or Bath.
Optional research placements with our industrial and large facility partners or at leading overseas Universities.
World-leading supervisors in Condensed Matter Physics.
Embedded skills training.
A research project based in our excellently equipped laboratories with a wide choice of exciting experimental and theoretical projects in fields including:
- Superconductors
- Magnetic materials
- 2D materials; graphene and beyond
- Semiconductors
- Photonic and plasmonic materials
- Condensed matter theory
- Spintronics
Funding
