Job Description

The Monogenic Diabetes Registry (within the Kovler Diabetes Center) at the University of Chicago

is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in molecular genetics to join a

collaborative and interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on the study of rare and atypical forms

of diabetes. This position will function under the supervision of Dr. Louis Philipson in collaboration

with Drs. Graeme Bell, Siri Greeley, and Rochelle Naylor.

The Monogenic Diabetes Registry identifies and enrolls inpiduals and families with rare and

atypical form of diabetes. The main aim of the registry is to identify known and novel genetic causes

underlying atypical forms of diabetes by applying next generation sequencing technologies.

Information on the genetic defects is used to define future improvements in therapy and medical care

and to provide new scientific insights into the more common forms of diabetes.

The fellow will be expected to design, interpret, and communicate results of experiments. The

fellow will participate in virtually all laboratory projects and in writing papers and grant

applications. The fellow will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings, and

related seminars, as well as work with and supervise students in the laboratory.

Successful candidates will have a PhD or MD/PhD degree in genetics, biology, or related disciplines,

and a strong scientific background as evidenced by their publication record. A strong interest in

diabetes research and experience with tools in molecular genetics, next generation sequencing, and

bioinformatics is preferred.

Please submit a brief statement of interest, CV, and contact information for at least 3 references.
