Postdoc in full-field coherent x-ray imaging : 2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

We are seeking an ambitious and talented postdoc for a two-year position at the Department of Physics at the Technical University of Denmark.

The project will pioneer a new approach to high-speed, high-resolution imaging of bulk materials using coherent synchrotron x-rays at hard energies (i.e. E > 15 keV). If successful, the new technique will overcome some of the major limitations of existing x-ray microscopy methods, enabling non-invasive 3D mapping of complex structures in large samples under in-situ conditions.

The candidate will be responsible for developing the mathematical/computational framework for the technique, demonstrating it via experiments, and disseminating the work to the x-ray and materials science communities. The experiments will be among the first to be carried out at the new Hard X-Ray Microscopy beamline (ID06) at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France.

Responsibility and tasks:
The project will involve both numerical and experimental work, including:

Developing the mathematical and computational basis for the acquisition and reconstruction of images

Simulating the technique using numerical methods (e.g. wavefront propagation and Monte-Carlo ray tracing)

Designing, planning and executing the first experimental demonstrations of the technique

Disseminating this work into the broader scientific community

In addition the candidate is expected to:

Assist in the group activities in x-ray imaging of materials and ensuing data analysis

Mentor and co-supervise students in the group and their projects
